Brian Mulkerrin Initiates Matching Gift to Kick-Off #GivingTuesday

With a pledge from local alum Brian Mulkerrin and his colleagues at e3i Engineers to match every dollar donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester on “Giving Tuesday” (up to $5000), the BGCD kick off their “Giving Tuesday.”

The members and families served by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester (BGCD) rely on the support and resources of the Club more than ever this year.  As the 2020 year-end giving campaign kicks off, the Club launches its #GivingTuesday social media campaign.

This year, Dorchester native and BGCD alum Brian Mulkerrin and his colleagues at e3i Engineers, Inc., an engineering and technology company located in Boston, announced a commitment to match every dollar up to $5,000 donated to BGCD on #GivingTuesday, December 1st.

“At e3i Engineers, we are very fortunate to be able to give back to the community,” said Mulkerrin, president and co-founder of e3i Engineers, Inc. “As we enter the holiday season during this difficult year, it is important to remember our roots, now more than ever. Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester shaped who I am today, and I’m thankful that my firm and I are able to support this great organization.”

Mulkerrin, a father of three who lives in Hingham, and his colleagues at e3i Engineers, Inc. are proud to support the Club and encourage all to give this year.

BGCD kicked off its #WeekofGratitude social media campaign last week with the hopes of raising $20,000 on #GivingTuesday, a global movement that began in 2012 to encourage people to donate to their favorite charities. Follow BGCD’s #WeekofGratitude and #GivingTuesday campaign on Twitter @BGCDorchester and on Facebook and Instagram.

In March, BGCD quickly adapted to COVID-19 restrictions, innovating new ways to serve youth and families across Dorchester and beyond. BGCD has since distributed nearly 15,000 “Grab & Go Meals” and hosted more than 400 Virtual Program videos and Zoom lessons. BGCD also delivered diapers and formula to hundreds of parents and has continued to be a vital resource for families. The Club reopened in July for a successful summer program serving 245 children and providing 100 teens with summer jobs. Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester is providing safe, supportive and supervised space to assist families in our community during the time children are learning remotely. BGCD has also created “Learning Hubs” and enrichment programs to support cohorts of K-8 students during typical “school day” hours. The Learning Hub and enrichment programs include meals, technology assistance, academic support and guidance. Hubs are led by BGCD staff with a focus on supporting the children’s social emotional well-being as they adapt to virtual learning. BGCD is such an important resource in the fight against learning loss and a resource for families in great need.
